Ireland at World Expo Osaka – Japan

The Ireland Pavilion at Expo, Osaka 2025 celebrates the theme Creativity Connects People, expressing the belief that individual creativity builds healthy communities, and in turn, thriving societies. The Pavilion showcases how creativity – across disciplines like biomedical research, design, music and craft – is a defining human trait that unites us all. Aligned with Japan’s Society 5.0 vision, but placing people before technology, we design outward from the human experience. The pavilion proposes that creativity transcends language, sparks innovation, fosters empathy, and opens space for meaningful connection - empowering us to imagine and shape a better future.

The Ireland Pavilion at Expo, Osaka 2025 celebrates the theme Creativity Connects People, expressing the belief that individual creativity builds healthy communities, and in turn, thriving societies. The Pavilion showcases how creativity – across disciplines like biomedical research, design, music and craft – is a defining human trait that unites us all. The pavilion proposes that creativity transcends language, sparks innovation, fosters empathy, and opens space for meaningful connection - empowering us to imagine and shape a better future.

The Pavilion has been designed by Office of Public Works, it features three intersecting elliptical forms inspired by the ancient triskele, wrapped in a sustainable Douglas Fir façade from Cork. At its entrance stands Magnus RINN, a monumental sculpture by Joseph Walsh Studio, crafted through years of material innovation.

Ellipse One offers a serene Irish habitat by Mount Venus Nursery, with a bird soundscape curated by Seán Ronayne, videos of Ireland’s landscapes, and a scent installation by waters + wild perfumery evoking the raw beauty of Irish landscape.

Ellipse Two explores shared creative traditions between Ireland and Japan, showcasing work by Joe Hogan, Frances Lambe, Clara Kumagai , The Tweed Project , CÚRAM, Research Ireland Centre for Medical Devices , Tomás Mac Uileagóid, and Cartoon Saloon all woven together in Matthew Boyd's film The Making of Us.

Ellipse Three is a mixed-use performance space featuring a newly commissioned immersive experience from Marianne Keating & Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh – Marianne Keating’s stunning film An Talamh/The Plan is inspired by the Tuatha Dé Danann myth, accompanied by a soundscape and live traditional music composed by Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh.
